“Terraza: a compilation of beats born during Spain's confinement.”
Earlier in spring, Spain had to endure a confinement that lasted a bit longer than a month, it was illegal to go outside unless we had to buy food, go to the doctor or had an emergency. During this time, I decided to invest most of my time in making music, using it as a coping mechanism and a way of improving my craft. Thus, I made one instrumental a day during the first fourteen days, mainly going back to my Hip-Hop roots, which are clearly reflected on the EP's main single: Mirador. Terraza is the culmination of this process, I took the best demos I made and finished them, with the goal of making it cohesive and reflect what my inspirations were during that time.
There are two main sounds in the project. First, the sound of 90s Boom-Bap, now reflected in artists like Cookin Soul or Damu The Fudgemunk, and captured in the songs 'Mirador' and 'Hifi Beats'. Second, an adventurous and dreamy sound that is somewhat characteristic of my music, reflected in 'Sendero' and 'Ultra Instinct'. Overall, Terraza has an upbeat and happy-leaning sound that is present in most of my productions.
Main single: Mirador
"Mirador" would translate as "lookout" in english, I decided to name it that way because it's one of my favourite things to do here in Málaga: go to a mirador and have some beers with my friends. The instrumental captures that feeling perfectly, almost like a soundtrack. It's got that classic Boom-Bap sound that I mentioned earlier, with a Lo-Fi touch and groovy drums, heavily inspired by golden-era 90s Hip-Hop, but with a happier sound.

“Hailing from Spain Cheap Monk has been building a great catalogue of chilled electronica and he is definitely starting to garner some great attention. His recent EP for Mezzanotte Network clocked up 300k plays on Soundcloud alone.”
Cheap Monk is the alias for Málaga, Spain, artist Miguel Martín, his productions range from Lo-Fi Hip-Hop, Chillhop, Downtempo and everything in between, with the prevalence of soothing, lush sounds, ambient effects and Boom-Bap rhythms; drawing inspiration from artists like Emancipator, Nujabes, Porter Robinson, Cookin Soul, Joey Pecoraro and many more. He started making Electronic Music at age 15, releasing music under different aliases, but it wasn't until September of 2018 that he decided to release music under the Cheap Monk alias and take it more seriously.
His songs Saturno and Tao, both released independently, have accumulated +4 million streams, reaching more than 2 million listeners. His single Alborada was released under the french label Hip Dozer, who have released projects by artists like Cookin Soul, Saib, Oatmello, Juan Rios, j'san and other main acts of the genre. He's also received support from blogs like Stereofox, Le Visiteur and Get Some Magazine.
